Reduce your risk
Exercise improves your mood and focus, reduces stress, and helps you sleep better.
It can help reduce your risk for a variety of other conditions including diabetes, some cancers, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
Current health guidelines state that adults should get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic exercise, such as:
- riding a bike
- swimming
- mowing a lawn
- jumping rope
- gardening
- aerobics classes and active yoga
- sports (basketball, tennis, pickleball, etc.)
- brisk walking
- dancing

Health experts also recommend that adults do muscle-strengthening activities at least two days per week. These can include:
- pushups, squats, and pull-ups
- lifting weights
- resistance bands
- stairclimbing and hill walking
- vigorous cycling or running
The best exercise regimen is one that you can stick to. Find a type of exercise that you enjoy and that works for your schedule.
Your health care provider can discuss exercise options with you if you’re unsure where to start.
