Why get support?
Getting support is one of the most important things you can do for your health and well-being. Research has shown that with proper support, HIV+ individuals:
- are more likely to properly take their medications
- stay healthy, physically and mentally
- experience a better quality of life
- are less likely to transmit HIV to others

Getting a positive diagnosis is life-changing, and it can feel terrifying. But with the right support network, you don’t have to do it alone.
The Peer Advocacy team at ASHwell can give you emotional support and help you find care. Its team of Peer Advocates helps you get the highest standard of care by taking the necessary time, care, and attention to support you in your journey.
ASHwell Peer Advocates are your cheerleaders and help you discover the drive and confidence to follow through with your treatment plan. They host weekly drop-ins and attend outreach events to create opportunities to connect with peers.
ASHwell’s peer programs include:
- Teaching you how to advocate for your own mental and emotional care
- Access to and help sticking with medical care
- Continuity of care and coordination services
- Helping you learn to rely on yourself and become more stable to grow out of the Peer Support program
- Access to medical transportation, mental health services, harm reduction education, and more
